Technical Datas

The Trans European Airport Network has established Pisa Airport as Regional Connecting Point, whereas the other airports of Tuscany have been given the role of “accessibility point”.

Specifically, the Galileo Galilei Airport:

  • benefits from the tourist-cultural assets of Tuscany which are the key factor of the developement strategy  for its incoming traffic;
  • has a runway system able to get most of today's aircraft types for civil and military purposes. This Airport features two runways: a 3,000 meter-long main runway and a secondary one of about 2,800 meters-long. They can either be used both for landing/take-off and taxiing, permitting to have flight operations even in case of unplanned maintenance services;
  • has 21 available aircraft stands for civil flights, of which n.19 for commercial aircraft, n.1 for helicopters and 1 for both commercial and helicopters;
  • is to a limited extent subject to environmental issues; because of the position of the runway, in most cases aircraft can make their approach to the airport over water;
  • has a wide range of destinations served by a great number of weekly flights;
  • guaranties its highly reliable operations from 5.00 am to 12.00 pm;
  • is a platform for the development of all of the commercial activities (non-aviation) and services provided by the city;
  • has a geographical location that makes it possible to offer freight dispatch services via road transportation to the main industrial centers in Italy in less than 5 hours.

    Pisa Airport is a military airport open to civil aviation. Therefore the Air Force is responsible for the management of the runways, the airport control towers, the navigation radio aids and radar control for approaching aircrafts.
    Here below details on the airport layout are provided.
