Airport Development and Investments

SAT has launched many projects to transform and develop the Airport infrastructures.
Among the biggest investments deliberated by the Board, thus far are:

  • in March 2010 upgrading of subsidiary runway of Pisa Airport was completed. Thanks to this investment the secondary runway before used for taxiing only can now be used for landing and take off in the event that the main runway should be closed for maintenance;
  • construction of the new cargo building “Cargo Village” designated for housing the SAT cargo terminal and courier activities. It has a total surface area of approximately 5,800 sqm and should be completed by the end of 2010;
  • acquisition of tracts of land adjacent to the Airport infrastructures for future expansion of SAT's infrastructures (initiated in 2007)

As far as non-aeronautical services, new extension as well as refurbishments dedicated to retail activities will be carried out to increase the existing passengers' services.
